.:DIY With Me – The Food Addition – The Soup Edition *BOM BOM BOOOOOOM!* :.

The cold days are coming friends and we all know what that means.  Soup.  Soup is the greatest thing on the planet to me.  Y’all need to understand.  I love soup.  I would rather eat soup than anything else.  It is a part of my “ooooh liquid” thing that I have.  Don’t ask.  For the love of all that is Holy DO NOT ASK!  Okay, you may ask.

See, I have an obsession with Liquid Food Stuffs.  My stomach being the doof that it is handles “solid” foods like well….. It doesn’t.  I can eat solids of course (cough cough fries) but in the end I feel like someone punched me in the gut.  *shrugs*  Talked to doctors about it and all.  They have NO CLUE what is going on.  But I am getting off topic.

Today, I thought I would share with you a few of my go to “soup” ideas to get you started on your cold day, soup nomming journey.

Oh and be sure to stick around until the end.  I have something very important to say.

Loaded Potato Soup

  • 4 medium red potatoes
  • 2 tsp olive oil
  • 1/2 c prechopped onion
  • 1 1/4 c chicken broth
  • 2 tbs all purpose flour
  • 2 c milk divided
  • 1/4 c sour cream
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 3 bacon slices, cooked and chopped
  • 1.5 oz cheddar cheese, shredded (that means about 1/3 of a cup y’all)
  • 4 tsp green onions, thinly sliced

Note:  You can use the reduced fat/low fat options of the dairy involved to reduce the amount of fatty stuffs in the soup!

  1. Pierce the potatoes with a fork and put them in the microwave for about 13 minutes on high.  Let those puppies nuke until they are fork tender.  When done, cut them in half and set aside.
  2. Heat the oil in a saucepan over medium-high heat.  Add your onions and allow them to saute for about 3 minutes.  Then add your broth.  Take 1/2 cup of your milk and mix it into the flour.  This is the thickener y’all!  Add it into the saucepan and stir thoroughly.  Then add the rest of the milk (1 1/2 c.)  Bring it to a boil while stirring constantly.  When it hits a good bubble, allow it to cook for 1 minute.  Remove it from the heat, then add the sour cream, cheese, salt and pepper.
  3. Remove the skins from the potatoes and coarsely mash those little nuggets of deliciousness into the milk/broth mixture. top with the bacon, the green onions and by all means, add more cheese!

This is a pretty easy and quick way of making potato soup!

ON TO THE NEXT ONE!

French Onion Soup

  • 2 tsp Olive Oil
  • 4 c sweet onion, thinly sliced
  • 4 c red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 tsp sugar (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 c dry white wine (optional)
  • 8 c beef broth
  • 1/4 tsp fresh thyme, chopped
  • 8 slices of French Bread, sliced and cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 8 oz Swiss Cheese, Sliced

Note:  No you do not have to use the sugar or the wine.  When they come up in the recipe, just skip it. 🙂

  1. Heat your olive oil in a large pot or Dutch Oven over medium-high heat.  Add onions to the pan and saute for 5 minutes or until tender.  Stir in the sugar, pepper and salt.  Reduce heat to medium and cook for another 20 minutes while stirring frequently.
  2. Increase the heat to medium-high again, saute for another 5 minutes or until the onion is golden brown and yummy.  Stir in the wine, cook for 1 minute and then add the broth and thyme.  Bring to a boil.
  3. Cover, reduce heat and allow to simmer for 2 hours.  (Yes friends, this one takes a bit of time but ERMERGERD it is worth it!)
  4. Begin preheating your broiler.  Place the bread cubes upon a baking sheet in a single layer.  Broil those buggers for 2 minutes or until they are toasty.  But make sure that you turn them after the first minute.  You don’t want them to be crunchy on one side and squishy on the other!
  5. Place 8 oven proof bowls into a baking pan that has a high enough side that keeps the bowls in without them falling all over the floor.  Trust me on this y’all.  I have broken many a bowl.
  6. Ladle in 1 cup of soup into each bowl, then cover with one slice of cheese per bowl.  Broil for 2 or 3 minutes or until the cheese gets that slight brown color that is so delicious.
  7. Take them out of the oven and allow to “cool” for 5 minutes before serving.

I do hope that you all enjoy the 2 recipes that I have shared today.  But I want to hear about your favorite soups!  Share  them in the comments below!  I am always looking for a new addition to my soup book!

Now for the important stuff.

I know that I have been a bit MIA lately, and I am truly sorry for that. I am not going to go into details because it is just life in general and is nothing that I can’t take care of!  That and the fact that I (not to sound mean) don’t want anyone’s sympathy.  There is way too much stuff going on in this world that we need to focus on, so I won’t add mine to that list. 🙂

But, I do want to say this.

For all of you that have subscribed to my blog, and for all of you that have stuck by me, Thank You.  Truly.  From the very bottom of my heart.  You all keep me going, and keep me smiling.  It means so much to come on here and see that someone has appreciated what I have said/done.  And considering how many of you are on here now (which blows my mind!) I know that I am helping people.  But I am not the only one.  YOU are helping ME!

There is nothing in this world that can express how much I appreciate each and every one of you.  Thank you just doesn’t even cut it.  Ugh, I am tearing up again.  *takes breath*

Anyway, y’all remember.  All of us can make a difference.  All of us can do something good in this world.  Be that one person that shines a light of love and peace into these dark times.

Love you ALL,

L.

.:Product Review – Sally Hansen Salon Effects Real nail Polish Strips:.

Well today, I have had an experience that I do not wish on anyone.  Truly, it was a nightmare.  But before I get to that, I need to explain the beginning.

I am notorious for not worrying about my nails.  I will paint them one day, and then forget for weeks that I even have fingernails.  Yeah, I know.  Now keep in mind, I don’t just have nails.  These things are like claws.  No matter what I do, they erupt into lengths unheard of by man and beast.  But I digress.

So being that I do not pay any mind to the demon talons upon my phalanges, I felt the need to get those nail strips.  It says on the box, “Lasts up to 10 days!”  so of course I am going to try those beasts out right?

So I go and find Sally Hansen Salon Effects Real Nail Polish Strips in black and white plaid.  I do not have a picture of the actual plaid but I have found a picture that shows the box itself.  (Thank you to @All Lacquered Up for the picture!)

sally-hansen-salon-effects-frock-star-bling-it-on-glitz-blitz-blue-ice

As you can see, they come in many different types and colors and things and suchness.  The black and white plaid was simply adorable… and plaid.  I loved the way that they looked.

So I take those puppies home, open up the box and pull out all the little shenanigans inside. It comes with

2 little “boxes” that hold the actual strips.

A nail file.  It is tiny and adorable.

A stick type thing that I am guessing is used for pushing back your cuticles.

Instruction manual.  Thank Goddess for this puppy y’all.

The box itself is really detailed with information.  It shows the color through a window on the front, but also has the design on the side.  The package itself is very well done.  The instruction are very clear as to what you need to do, (which I should have read more carefully mind you!)

Well, I sit down and get ready.  Do y’all remember the adage “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks?”  Yeah, well I am pretty sure that is true.  I screwed up the first one.  Even after reading the instructions.  I took off what I thought was the backing. I am trying my best to “press on” the strip and am getting agitated at the fact that they are not sticky.  Thankfully my friend Lauren was here and she said, “Um sweetie, you are supposed to peel it off the other backing too.”  After me banging my head on my desk for about 5 minutes, feeling like a complete moron, I peel off the “OTHER” backing and boom!  Sticky.

I am through the moon at this point, and I lay that hunk of nail paint onto my waiting claw aaaaannnnnndddd F it up yet again.  I totally rip it.  I said, “Screw it” and just kept pressing it on.  After some delicate stretching (and my delicate, I mean I am jerking it around like a…..  nevermind.  Mind…. Gutter… Bad….)  I finally fit the damn thing to my nail.  It looked horrid, it was a mess, but by Gods I have it on.  After the next few fingers, I’m on a roll!  They all look a hell of a lot better than the first one.

By the time I was done, I was exhausted, my brain had turned to mush, and I needed a nap.  Seriously y’all.  It was so straining trying to get them on properly.  I know many of you are laughing right now, but damn!  It was a nightmare….. Okay, it is funny as all hell. I admit it.

Anyway.

I had worn the things for nearly 3 weeks y’all.  And they never chipped, nor faded.  Okay, they chipped but it was my nervous tick of peeling that caused that and it was only on the sides that weren’t stuck down that well.  And my “peel tick” stopped soon after I realized that the parts that were stuck, were STUCK.  They weren’t coming up for anyone.

They looked really good, and I am blown away by how well they done.

BUT….

Here comes the nightmare part y’all.

Last night, I felt the need to take the plaid off my fingerbones.  I ended up going and getting a different kind of nail.  This one is black and has this bumpy feel.  Looks gorgeous.

On the box, it says, “Remove with Polish Remover.”

kitty-facepalm

Lies.  Lies and slander.  This shit doesn’t come off.  It refuses to let go of my nail.  I now have it all over my fingers, and somehow it ended up on my leg.  Its sticky…  So very sticky.  Guys, I am seriously upset here.  My fingers look like I dipped myself in Wonderland.  IT WON’T COME OFF.  It took a whole bag of cotton balls, a whole bottle of remover and me screaming at the top of my lungs while looking like I got tarred and feathered before it just squished off the nails.  I’m serious people, SQUISHED off the nail.  I cannot even explain how I am feeling at this point.  My nails are clean(ish) but the shit has moved to the rest of my body.  I have strip leprosy or something.  It is still sticky, I can’t get it off. I have washed my hands in soap, detergent, alcohol, even more finger nail polish remover and it won’t come off or get UNSTICKY.  I can feel my fingers sticking to the keys right now and am slowly sinking into insanity as I type this.

My Opinion:

The coverage is great, the packaging is spot on, the color/design choices are top notch.  I give it that.  But the removal process makes me want to just cut off my hands with a rusty axe and be done with it.

Would I suggest these?  Yes and no.  I would advise anyone that is wanting to try these things to go to someone that knows what the hell they are doing and have them done RIGHT.  And REMOVED correctly.  If you don’t know anyone that uses them, and knows what they are doing, I would steer away…. FAR away.

.:I know it has been a while:.

Yes my dear friends, it has been a while.  Things have been in an uproar since I posted last so I felt that now that I have a bit of time, I can explain all that has been going on.  I also want to give a bit of advice to all of you.

Since you and I last spoke, I have been feeling a wee bit down.  A bit of a depression has sunk in, but many of us deal with things like that.  Being who I am, I try my best to find ways to dig myself out of a funk but this time it has been a bit difficult.  Thankfully, after taking some time to really focus on everything that was bringing me down, I FINALLY said to myself, “What am I doing?  I deserve better than this.”  I spent hours standing in front of my mirror telling myself that I am better than these feelings of depression.

I can tell you, my dear friends, that those first few days were hard.  I would look in the mirror and just cry.  Who I saw in the mirror was not who I was inside.  I am big and boisterous.  I am carefree and unique.  But who I saw in the mirror was a miserable person; a person that didn’t match the one living within this body.  It was hard to see someone that is sick on the outside of myself, when the inside is so alive.

Yes, I know.  I am always one that stands up and is positive all the time.  But for the past few weeks, that person just walked out and left an empty shell.  It can happen to everyone, and unfortunately, it comes at the most inopportune times.

Now, I am doing a lot better.  While I am still not 100%, I can see the light at the end of this dark tunnel.  I can see the brightness and it is beautiful.  I see the positive all around me, and know that I am making my way back into my comfort zone.

Look my friends, my advice here is coming from the deep dark abyss of despair and depression.  It is coming from someone that has fought long and hard to keep it at bay.  And if you know me, or have been privy to all that I write on here, you will see that most of my advise or “opinions” (quotey fingers used here!) come from my experiences.

So saying that, here is my thoughts.

YOU ARE BETTER THAN YOUR DEPRESSION.

If all of us focus on the negative sides of our lives, we are not able to see or appreciate all the wonderful things that we have around us.  There are so many things to be grateful for.  Your children, your life, your family.  All of these things are so beautiful and something to cherish.

Now, I want to explain something.

I do not like medication.  In any form.  That is just my prerogative.  It is hard enough to get me to take tylenol.  But if you feel that your depression is too overwhelming, that you are losing control of it.  GO TO THE DOCTOR.  Ask them about what you can do to assist in getting control.  Would medication be the answer?  I don’t know.  But if you are down and out, if you cannot see the light at the end of that tunnel, DO WHAT YOU CAN TO GET THAT LADDER OUT.  Even if it is having to take something to make it better.

You need to see the beauty in life my friends.  Because you deserve it too.

All of you are wonderful people, all of you have such glorious gifts surrounding you.  It is time to take the reins, even if you need help.

Love Always

L.

.:Recipe Time with Lilly – Easy Chocolate Fudge:.

I know that I haven’t posted much and I do hope that all of you will forgive me for that.  I haven’t been feeling good the last few days.  But hey, it happens and it doesn’t mean that I don’t love y’all.  So to make up a bit for it, I am sharing this recipe.

Easy Chocolate Fudge

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of semi sweet chocolate morsels
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts (this is optional y’all.  You don’t like nuts?  Don’t need em. *smiles*)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

What ya need to do:

  • Line an 8 inch square pan with tin foil, or parchment paper.  It is all your preference.
  • Put the chocolate and the milk into a sauce pan and place on the stove that is on the LOWEST SETTING IMAGINABLE. Don’t need to rush this one kiddies, otherwise you might end up with some nasty bark type stuff.  We don’t want that.  Stir until it is smooth and the chocolate is all melty goodness.  Oh, and don’t lick the spoon yet.  That stuff is like lava heated to the temp of the sun and your tongue will melt off in a frenzy of awfulness.  Just sayin’
  • Remove from heat and add the vanilla and nuts (if you want nuts that is.)
  • Spread evenly in the pan that you have lined.  Spread it good.  (Insert Devo music here as I dance around like an idiot.)
  • Cover with foil and put into the fridge for about 2 or so hours.  Just until it is firm.  Then remove from the pan.  (Which is pretty easy due to the foil/paper!  Just lift!)
  • Pull off the foil and then cut into blocks or chunks or just eat it whole.  This is all up to you. 🙂  I would vote for chunks.  That way you don’t gets a tummy ache.
  • Just eat it, eat it, eat it, eat it.  Get yourself an egg and beat it  Um…  Sorry.  I am in music mode y’all.  I’m done.

Love you guys immensely!

.:Important Y’all! Must Read!:.

I am sorry I haven’t posted in a while.  I have been working on getting things around the house taken care of so it has been a bit of a struggle to just sit down and chill out without passing out. *laughs*  But today, I need to talk to y’all about something VERY important.  And I mean EXTREMELY important.  UBER important!  It is a matter of life and money y’all.

Last night, Waya got an email.  This email sent us into a frenzy of Holy Crapballs.  Y’all need to know about this.

The email was from “Comcast” saying that he is in trouble for Copyright Infringement.  The “infringement” was over a movie called Automata.  (I honestly had no idea what that meant.  I had no idea there was a movie called Automata.  But I digress.) This, of course, sent him into a frenzy of panic.  See, Waya has PTSD.  He has massive panic attacks when… Okay, this is a story for another time, but y’all get the idea.  Both of us are confused by what all of it meant.  We both read through the email numerous times, trying to figure out the implications and what it all meant.  He was in a flurry of OMGs and “Can they put me in jail???”s.  I, in the end, told him to go to bed.  He was freaking out y’all.  Hard core.

Now keep in mind that neither of us know what the heck this email is talking about.  The movie Automata or however it is spelled is something neither of us will watch.  (I looked it up and it looks sketchy at best IMO.)  But, after having a nap, (I got to sleep all of 3 hours, *grumbles and bumbles*) we got up and decided to look at it again with fresh eyes.  I am going to copy it here for all of you to see.  I am going to take out the “private information” like our address so keep that in mind.

Reporting Party: support@cegtek.com
Reporting Party Case: U146112807
Reporting Party FAQ: null

We both started looking at the links that was given.  www.comcast.net  See the issue there?  The address to Comcast is http://www.xfinity.COM/Comcast.  So there was the first issue.  Secondly, we took a look at the reporting party.  Seemed pretty legit, but it wasn’t until we saw the last line.  Reporting Party FAQ: null.  What did that mean?  So we started searching.  And by we, I mean HE started searching.  I on the other hand couldn’t see my fingers due to the sleepy all up in my eyeholes.

That is when we came across a lovely page http://aknextphase.com/notice-copyright-infringement/ that showed the exact same email.  The only difference was the movie choices.

Now, why am I telling y’all about this?

It is a scam my friends.  A scam.  They want you to call the number you see above.  They will ask for all of your information, social security number and suchness, and then poof.  They steal everything.  Your identity,  your money, your life.  All gone.  I want all of you to be safe and secure.  I want all of you to not have to worry about all this foolishness.  No one deserves to go through something like that.

If you feel that you have gotten an email that is questionable.  Go to the source.  Never click the links in the email, never call the number.  Go directly to the source.  In this case, Comcast themselves.  Ask them, “Hey, I got this email.  Am I in trouble?”  They are the ones that you need to worry about.

Share this everyone.  You don’t need to use my exact blog, you don’t need to use my exact words, but we need to keep everyone informed about what is going around.  And remember, GO TO THE SOURCE.

I love you guys so so much.

.:E.L. James and the Foolishness on Twitter:.

Hello my darling friends. I hope that all of you are doing well.  Today I am feeling both bad and good, so I am pretty happy about it.  That means that there is light in the darkness. 🙂

What I wanted to talk about is the whole mess that happened with E.L. James and her Twitter Chat catastrophe.

I have never read the Shades of Grey books.  Nor have I wanted to.  It is no insult to James at all.  It is just the way I am.  Who knows perhaps in the future, when all the hype has died down, I will pick one up.

I did, though, find a video on YouTube about the things that we “probably” didn’t know about the movie.  I watched it.  While the video itself was really good (the narrator is hilarious with the way he words things,) the movie itself made me sad. I will explain why after I talk about what happened.

During the Twitter conversation, James ended up being on the receiving end of some very hurtful, abusive commentary. Things were said that shouldn’t have been.  They were insulting, rude and just down right atrocious.  Some examples:

  • Amanda states: “Is there a safe word we can use to get you to stop writing such drivel?
  • Andrew writes: “#AskELJames after the success of “Grey,” have you considered retelling the story from the perspective of someone who can actually write

It just gets worse and worse people.  This is a snippet from Deb Ng. of the Kommien blog, (link is here if you would like to check it out in full.)

“Some of the same people who go online and preach about haters and trolls are LOL’ing at the treatment E.L. James received because they don’t think she’s a very good writer.”

Are you serious?  The very content creators that are vying for the trolls and abuse to stop is also saying that it is OKAY for it to happen to another.  So it is perfectly fine for someone to be abused, bullied and hurt, just as long as it isn’t you?  That is BULLSHIT.  Period.  That is riding the line of hypocrisy to the point of pure dumbassery.  What if it was you sitting behind that screen?  hmmm….  Wouldn’t be all LOL, then would you.  We all start somewhere and I am pretty sure, your first “literary works” weren’t all that great either.  Or is it just that you are jealous about how well she is doing?  I would probably vote for that one.

And to all of the people that deemed it necessary to lash out with such hatred.  How about you write a book?  How about you get off that high horse and do it yourself if you think you are so smart.  Even if you didn’t like the work that she done, why not use your time helping?  Giving her constructive criticism?  Help her to get BETTER.  Instead of being a bunch of douchebags wanting to lynch someone.

As for my thoughts on the video I saw.

It made me sad.  It really did.  Because I didn’t see it as some erotic foolishness.  What I saw was a man that was so afraid of losing control of his life that he took control of others.  His self esteem was so breakable that his only way of staying “sane” and “together” was by Dominating another. This is not a book about sex and bondage to me.  Not anymore.  This is about someone’s psychological status.  Grey, himself, is a child in a mans body that doesn’t know what the hell he is doing with his life.  One that is afraid of becoming less that was he deems suitable.  It is a sad concept.

And who knows, I may be way off mark with this.  Honestly, I don’t care if I am.  Books and movies are different for everyone.  Their meanings a mismatch for each reader/viewer.

Ms. E.L.James.  I do know that you will probably never see this posting, but in case you do.

I’m sorry.  Truly and Deeply.  You did not deserve the abuse you have received. It was not fair to you.  You should have been treated with a lot more respect.  It is atrocious how people can be so cruel and vile.  It is childish, and I am blown away by the fact that so many people deem it necessary to settle for elementary school antics such as these.  I know that my apology is not enough to rid you of the pain I am sure you are going through right now, but I do hope that it eases it at least a small amount.
